Rio Fernando Camps
Please see below for our summer Rio Fernando camp schedule and program descriptions to start making summer plans. Mark your calendars: registration opens on March 1st!
ABOUT RIO CAMPS:
Our unique Rio Fernando camps are funded by grants and donors and are completely free to Taos youth. The enrollment process for these camps prioritizes SNAP-eligible families and aims to increase accessibility of FIT programs and the great outdoors! We ask that families only sign up for 1-2 weeks of Rio sessions to ensure everyone who wants to has a chance to participate.
Interested in sponsoring a Rio camp? Please contact our Executive Director, Elizabeth LeBlanc, at elizabeth@fitaos.org or by phone at #575-770-1313.
ABOUT OUR CAMPS:
We provide hands-on, nature-based outdoor experiences promoting connection and healthy, active lifestyles and focusing on adventure, natural sciences, community, and culture. We offer experiential education, teach outdoor skills, and encourage inclusive and accessible thoughtful exploration.
Since 1996, FITaos has been delivering high-quality outdoor education experiences for Taos youth. Our summer camps focus on active, hands-on learning experiences. We explore our surroundings through hikes, field notes and drawings, organized activities, art projects, and games, offering two-week and one-week sessions that include hiking, camping, backpacking, bike adventures, and more!
Observation, teamwork, and problem solving skills are developed in an exciting, fun, and creative outdoor learning environment. Children are encouraged to share their knowledge and discoveries with the group. Days are spent primarily outside with guest presenters joining us throughout the summer. Volunteers, Counselors In Training, and Junior Counselors assist the groups.
